Ferns and shady gardens

I collect fernsfor approximate 22 years. A nice house near the forest and a garden with many old trees forced me to look for the right plants for shady situations. At the beginning after we bought the house in the lovely Westerwald I found some ferns in this garden. They looked well and I went to a garden center to have a look for more kinds of ferns. I found some nice species, for example Dryopteris erytrosora and Athyrium niponicum. They grew well and so I went to nurseries searching for more and more ferns. I was entranced by the variety of the forms and colours. Then I bought my first book about ferns. Until now I have about 400 ferns in my collection. Most of them grow in my garden, in winter time some of them in a heated greenhouse. Another hobby of mine is to take photos from all the ferns I find in gardens, botanical gardens and elswhere. I put they together in a Fern-CD. So all people who love ferns like me can have a look to the beauty of them.

Some words about me

Fools hurry, clever wait,
wise go to the garden.
(Rabindranath Tagore)

Because I was asked several times to introduce myself by a photo and a few personal data on this homepage, I would like to follow this wish now. I am 58 years old have 5 adult children and two granddaughters. Much time of the day I spend to work in my 1000 qm large garden.

Mostly I love to sit in my garden watching the plants and ferns, the butterflys and all other animals. In spite of careful content control I take over no liability for the contents of external links. The operators carry the responsibility for the contents of the linked sides.

Take photos, art and nature
Taking photos becomes a great passion to me in the last years. Since I began to collect ferns and later to photograph them, I find more and more other interesting and nice things in natur to take a photo of them. A few of them you can find here . All Photos were taken with Nikon Coolpix 995 and Canon Eos450d.
